Rafe Lawrence is a fugitive android initially built by the International Alliance Robotics Division as part of a replacement program for human soldiers. His programming is most specific to assassination and infiltration missions, and he was designed with a highly sophisticated and relatively untested artificial intelligence system capable of gaining knowledge through experience. This eventually leads to his violent rebellion.

He's brash, sarcastic, suave, and over-confident, landing him in trouble most of the time. He speaks what's on his mind and holds a nasty prejudice against humans for the way they've treated him in the past. The only human he completely trusts is his mechanic and best friend, Alex.

Rafe's main close-combat weapon, his claws, were fashioned by himself and are still not perfected. They tear through his synthetic skin and thus he sometimes wraps his exposed hands with cloth later. He is capable of instantly swapping both hands to claws when faced with an enemy.

He has four retractable tentacles - two on the front of his thoracic cavity and two located on his back. The rear ones are most often used for firing weapons, grasping objects, and alternative vision. The frontal ones are used for performing minor repairs, recharging, hacking systems, and injecting toxins that can paralyze or kill (lending him the codename Tarantula).

Far as senses go, Rafe's eyesight is sharp, and he's able to see pretty well in darkness. He can change the appearance of his eyes to unlock classified files. His sense of hearing is also stronger than a human's, but he has no sense of smell or taste. Touch is very limited; he can sense contact but can't feel pain or pleasure, except in situations when he is hit with certain electrical impulses.

Rafe always wears a pair of dog tags. He was previously a nameless weapon, and the dog tags he took from a fallen soldier give him his sense of identity as a person and not a slave.

When Rafe isn't in a stealth situation, he often acts rather curious about things, and moves in a slightly animalistic manner. His tentacles express his emotions, acting like a dog or cat's tail. He can contort his body into positions that humans can't, which he loves to use to freak out Alex.

Random facts: he's developed a habit of chewing on things when bored. He loves classic rock and his favorite music artists are Queen, The Who, CCR, and The Black Keys. He was built in Boston and picked up the accent early on, but can speak a variety of languages and alter the pitch of his voice, in addition to communicating in a range of mechanical clicks, squeaks, and sounds. He's light on his feet and fast-moving, but lacks the bulk of some of the military's other war machines. He has trouble handling emotions as he's still learning about them, and he's deathly afraid of undergoing heavy maintenance, as it requires an intimate level of trust. While he can be a major flirt, he's asexual.
