Shade is Tenino's ghost. At the time of Tenino's almost-death, Shade split from her body. Where Tenino is the shell, Shade is the embodiment of all Tenino's old memories and feelings. This said, however, Shade is nothing more than that - a shade pf her former self. She has no expression or emotion. She was neutralised at the time of her parting from her host's body, a reflection of Tenino's once stable emotions, which have now become volatile as they are not contained within her empty shell of a body.

Shade has become a sort of "guardian angel" over her former body. Completely unseen and undiscovered by Tenino, Shade is tied by a single spirit thread to the heart of her old body. Hovering over her always, Shade is able to transfer memories, knowledge and emotions through her spirit thread, essentially keeping Tenino "alive". Without Shade, Tenino would entirely die and Shade would pass over. Until that thread is severed, however, the two are bound to earth for an eternity.

Shade may sometimes be portrayed with white angel's wings and a halo over her head. This is very much contrasted by her expressionless face and white, pupil-less eyes. She is often attributed to negative emotions, particularly those of sadness and fear.
