The giant cone snail, is a large predatory sea mollusc.
They should be avoided with great care. This species is most dangerous to humans near coastal regions and may be spoted near river outlets; the smaller younger snails mostly hunt and eat marine fish, working their way up the food chain.
Cone snails use a hypodermic-like modified radula tooth and a venom gland to attack and paralyze their prey before engulfing it. The tooth is sometimes likened to a dart or a harpoon. It is barbed and can be extended some distance out from the mouth of the snail, at the end of the proboscis.
