Backstory: Zheng Jie (Mr China) is a civil official of first rank from the Qing dynasty. He is essentially a governor and he governs an entire province.

His elder brother, Zheng Guo, followed in their father’s footsteps, becoming a military official general defending the frontier. He hated how the country was run. It was full of corruption and often the families of his brave men who died in battle did not receive any token for their sons' contributions. Even their bodies were never recovered to be given a proper burial. He felt it was a disservice to these brave men. All these soldiers normally died a very lonely death. They would be away from their families for years serving the country. They rarely get to return to visit their family, if they survived at all.

Thus, Zheng Guo and some of his men had plans to assassinate the emperor. Mr China was not part of this. His brother’s plans was eventually discovered when his accomplices were captured and tortured. As punishment, the emperor gave the order to execute the entire family line (Nine familial extermination) while Zheng Guo went through Death By A Thousand Cuts execution.

Mr China had to do something to save his family. He helped some of them to escape, amongst them being his only daughter whom he treasured a lot especially since she resembled his late wife a lot.

He got caught and was charged with high treason for his actions. As punishment he was sentenced to death by dismemberment (torn apart by four horses) in public. Whether his efforts to help his family escape was in vain or not is unknown to him. He never knew if they made it or not.

His body parts was recovered by some friends of the family, sewed together and given a proper burial.

Almost 3 centuries later, his reanimated corpse was found by a bunch of corrupted, power hungry people that wanted to control him. But they found his old body to be too vulnerable. Thus they tried to summon the pure-form spirit of his being in order for him to become smarter (instinct and reaction wise) and less fragile and they succeeded.

His spirit was summoned and the power of the spirit absorbed and destroyed the remains of his old, reanimated body and was attempted restrained by their talismans, but they did not count in the actual sentience to kick in, meaning they without intending it actually revived a person, at least partially, and confused as he was he managed to get away from them.

.

Personality: Quiet, shy, noble. Does not speak his mind often. If he does speak, he speaks very little. Usually straight forward and to the point. Does not bother to elaborate too much. He does not move much either. He is a dead person after all. His legs are very stiff like a corpse and he has difficulty bending his knees. Whether it is due to physical limitation by the seals or more of a mental issue originating in his former Jiang Shi body is unknown. He travels by hopping rather than walking. Capable of levitating but chooses not to simply because he does not want to be too in tune with his current being. He despises the way he is and what he has become.

Seems perplexed often because he is new to the modern world and its inventions and its people. He is a grieving ghost. He mourns his past, his deceased family, his current situation. But he has become more accepting of it nowadays. No matter what kind of head he uses, eventually his spirit will shape it to bear some of his unique features.

He is also all about manners and respect. He may be a pushover but he has his limits and will not tolerate disrespect shown by others. This is because he was a high ranking Official in the past. He likes politeness. He even does not ever point with a single finger. It is considered rude to him and instead, he will point with 2 fingers. Though he will hardly ever resort to violence even when he's overly angry.

**Important design notes: **

  • His entire spiritual body is covered with the talisman seals. They should fold around him with a lot of creases and since the talismans are rather short, they shouldn't look like mummy bandages that just go round and round the figure.

  • He has slight “popeye-ish” kind of arms.

  • His torso is short compared to his legs. His arms are long as well.

  • His hair is also made up of the talisman seals.

  • The peacock feathers on his hat are also made up of talisman seals.

  • His head is not attached to his body and neither is it his “real” head. It is easily replaceable. He lost one once by setting himself on fire in an attempt to break the spell of the seals that binds him.

  • Each hand has 4 digits.

  • His legs are very stiff like a corpse and he has difficulty bending his knees. Whether it is due to physical limitation by the seals or more of a mental issue is unknown. He travels by hopping rather than walking.

  • No matter what kind of head he uses, eventually his spirit will shape it to bear some of his unique features.

  • The design on his chest is a crane. It is a badge that represents his rank as an official. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mandarin_square#Military . The design should be on the back of his robe as well.

Omfg I can't believe I did a reference sheet... I tried so many times for my other characters but could never do it because I hate doing linework and I'd have to draw so much for it. Also I hate doing typography. Not to mention it's a headache to rearrange and organise all this shit.

Mr China, know that I love you so much. :|
