Laika, nick named 'Husky', has been with Rift since the beginning. He remained his devoted companion up until Rift's adult life where the two parted ways. Husky took on the life of being a dog breeder, creating a handful of packs before retiring. After an exceptionally long life, when Husky was to be taken into the afterlife, he left his body and cast his soul into the world. It split to a number equal to the generations of offspring that descended from him plus one. These many fragments act as dream guides mostly, occasionally manifesting into a most realistic illusion over time when enough strength is gathered. When any number of fragments combine, they form a physical body with which to interact directly with the world, but should it be destroyed, the soul fragment will be destroyed as well.

Husky gave up his chance at an afterlife to watch over his family and master for as long as they should live.
