Spunky, thrill seeking spy pirate from an age of steam. Thief, treasure hunter, part-time airship.

Veronica was the eldest daughter of a noble family whose history went back generations. Like many women among the high class at the time, her fate was decided for her the second she entered the world, when she would come of age, she would be married off to another family of high prestige. Less a person and more of a bargaining chip for money and reputation, her parents raised her and her sisters in a strict, stifling environment, teaching them the values of feminine beauty, grace, etiquette, and blind loyalty. Though her sisters were able to adapt to the life of the proper woman, Veronica was a headache from the moment she could walk. She was a spirited, curious, adventurous vixen, too busy getting into mischief to worry about dirt under her fingernails, or yet another stain and tear on those elegant gowns they always crammed her into. She thought almost constantly about what lied beyond the walls she was kept in, and she dreamed she could one day see the world. This behavior began to drive a wedge between her and the rest of the Victoria family, who began to crack down on her deviant behavior during her teenage years, as she grew closer and closer to marrying age. Arguments with her parents were common, and her yearning for freedom turned into a bitter resentment for her predetermined fate. This all came to a head one night when, after a particularly heated spat, she snuck out of that mansion she spent her whole life in and escaped into the night, never to return.

Veronica drifted around the country for a year or two. With nowhere to go, and no real way for a woman of her status to find work, she began to resort to petty theft to survive. She found that she was strangely gifted in the art of theft and deceit, and began to find endless enjoyment in suckering the unsuspecting rich from their valuables. The vixen would eventually find herself joining a crew of sky pirates, lead by the young Captain Leopold "Silverfang" Volkhutt, with whom she shared an unshakable loyalty, but also an intense rivalry due to his being the only one who could match her skill. Her days were spent boarding the hapless airships of nobles as they traveled across international airways and taking them for every coin they had, and her nights were spent in the ships machinery, studying the inner workings of the brass and iron machines which kept them afloat.

She was well comfortable with the life of a pirate when the crew happened across what they believed to be the map leading to what was thought to have been the lost treasure of another infamous pirate from generations back. Hidden away on an island thought lost to time, it was said his ghost still haunted it's lands, driven mad by an eternity of undeath. A mix of adventurous morale and simple greed prompted them to begin the long voyage. Months passed until they finally reached their destination. As they went to land, however, their ship was caught in a storm and they were forced to make a crash landing, badly damaging the balloon and leaving them stranded. With nothing else to do as repair were made, Veronica and Leopold set out with some of the crew to search for the treasure. As they saw the cave it was written to be in, the rivalry between Veronica and the captain sparked, and they both rushed inside, wanting to be the first to see the booty inside before the other. In their excitement, they didn't even notice that they left behind the others in the twisting caves.

Hours later, they struck paydirt, a large room with piles of gold and jewels reaching up to the ceiling, glistening beautifully in the light of their lantern. Overcome, they reached in to grab themselves a handful... only to discover too late that the rumors of a curse were true. Veronica felt an unnatural pressure in her midsection, quickly intensifying. As she stopped to see the cause, she discovered to her shock that she was inflating like a balloon before her very eyes. As her body filled with air, she looked over to find that Leopold was growing fatter by the second, slowly being pulled to the floor by hundred of pounds of blubber. She barely had time to process it when she felt herself rising off the floor. With a helpless shriek, she was sent spiraling into the air, lightly bouncing on the ceiling. The two were trapped, and would be trapped for several days.

Refusing to die, the two began to put every inch of their being into escape. As Leopold began to pull himself to his feet, Veronica clawed her way down the wall. After what felt like an eternity, and after expending near inhuman amounts of effort, the two were close enough to join hands. His now massive weight pulled him down, and her blimped body pulled him up. As they pulled themselves out of that cave, hand in hand, they promised to end their rivalry then.

Over time, Veronica began to get control over her curse, learning to inflate and deflate to nearly any size she wanted. Amused by her new power, she decided to make use of it the best way she could: Becoming her crews airship. With the ship tied under her, the newly named S.S. Victoria took to the skies. Today, her, Leopold and the crew have become one of the more infamous pirates in the sky, shocking their targets with the sight of a blimp carried by a massively inflated vixen.

Quite a unique idea for a character, it's not often someone writes about steampunk inflation.

Glad you like it. With a genre full of that many zeppelins, it was only a matter of time before expansionists got their hands on it. :3
