...do you know why Cheshires always grin?

Long ago, in the purgatory between sanity and insanity, spanned a consciousness known as "Wonderland". In this land lived a evaporating creature known as the Cheshire Cat, known for his constant grin and vexing philosophy. The Cheshire Cat focused completely on the "common good" instead of the good of single creatures. "Never trust a Cheshire" became a common theme, and the grinning ghost cat became known as neither friend nor foe. He would randomly save one and then randomly backstab another -- with only the expanses of time showing his true good intentions.

One day, the Cheshire Cat did the unthinkable -- delivering information to the evil Red Queen that lead to the defeat of the White Queen in one fell swoop. As the Mad Hatter watched in terror, the forces of the Red Queen overran the lands of the White Queen. The Cheshire Cat was instantly branded a traitor. But he knew that the Red Queen holding the power would spark the catalyst of her defeat by the return of Alice. It simply had to be done for the greater good.

Now, we fast forward years past the second coming of Alice. The Cheshire Cat realizes through his intuition that Wonderland stands as a beacon of morality in what Alice called "the real world". While he could never "leave" the confines of Wonderland, the evil of immorality in this real world started to influence the balance of Wonderland. The more senseless people acted in the real world, the more Wonderland started to crumble. The connection between Wonderland and the real world started growing closer and closer, and the creatures of Wonderland started learning more about the realm that Alice originally came.

That's when Wonderland's inhabitants learned about what is known as "mental illness" in Alice's real world. Their beloved insanity was seen as senseless and disturbing in the other realm. As the Cheshire Cat studied this mental illness, he learned that sometimes people labeled as "schizophrenic" or "psychotic" could at times see directly into Wonderland while other people could not. The Cheshire Cat's intuition told him that in order to save the balance of Wonderland, he would have to affect the morality in Alice's real world. But he also knew he wouldn't be able to do it alone.

After some time, the Cheshire Cat learned that people under emotional stress and inner moral dispute could sometimes experience similar sightings of Wonderland like those labeled as psychotic. Through these studies with the mentally ill, the Cheshire Cat used his evaporation skills to create vaporous hallucinations in the real world of Alice. Cheshires were born into the real world that could appear to people (known to Cheshires as alices) as hallucinations during moral distress.

One of these Cheshires is "the Noxis" -- a master of deontological ethics. Unlike the Nightdown fox, who preaches about consequences, the Noxis focuses more on the duty behind a decision. When approached with moral choices, an alice just had to focus on moral duties and what rules existed to regulate those duties. Instead of speaking in riddles, the Noxis speaks directly, telling her alices what they have a duty to do based on the circumstances. She leaves the final decision to the alice, and sometimes she leads her alices down the wrong path hoping they "wise up" and realize their true duty. The Noxis's direct words can be just as befuddling as the Nightdown's riddles, often telling alices to do one thing but hoping they do another. When the greater good decision lies outside of the legal rules presented in the real word, the Noxis begrudgingly works with her "partner" the Nightdown fox to help alices see consequences instead of duty. Unlike her partner (who she has complete zeal for sometimes, and absolutely despises at other times), she is much more openly sociopathic -- a black widow of sorts who often tosses her alices away the moment they lose their usefulness in her eyes. That dissonance matched with the Nightdown fox's more inward manipulative nature would one day save the realm of Wonderland...
