Backstory: Rodney (or "Lightning Rod" as he likes to call himself) is a travelling adrenaline junkie of an Electrode. His one claim to fame is his powerful Explosion attack - Rodney learned how to harness his self-destruction to launch himself great distances. One fateful day, he managed to launch himself across the ocean to unfamiliar territory - Chargestone Cave. Rodney was initially warmly accepted into the cave's mining community because of his ability to blow up rock walls for tunneling, and formed a quirky friendship with a Klinklang named Calculator 8,192. However, Rodney's thrill-seeking nature got the better of his mundane work habits, and he began to explode in dangerous, unauthorized areas, pull pranks, and sneak off from work to overdose on the electricity generated by the levitating Chargestone rocks. Eventually, everyone grew tired of his crap, and he was exiled from Chargestone Cave. With some coaxing, Rodney's Klinklang friend Cal, also followed.

Rodney and Cal make up an unofficial dungeon duo known as "Team Lightning Rod". They never do rescue or escort missions, they only go into dungeons for the thrill of it, since Rodney would get a stupid idea in his head to annoy a bunch of cave-dwelling Garchomps, then run away when the going gets tough. They also hunt for treasures to sell - sometimes resorting to stealing the treasures of others. Much to the annoyance of others, Rodney likes to disguise himself as a large rock and lie in wait for unsuspecting Pokemon to pass near him (similar to the explosion trap tiles in Mystery Dungeon), then explodes and giggles like a maniac before passing out from faint. If any of their items scatter from the explosion, Cal innocently picks up and sorts anything of interest, and rolls Rodney out before the other party can wake up. While Rodney is aware of his own deceitful nature, the machine-like Cal has no understanding of lying or deceit, and is only simply performing a job for his best friend.

Personality: Rodney only ever thinks about one thing: Rodney. He will stop at nothing to get what he wants, and very rarely considers the emotions of others. His perpetual lust for adrenaline leaves him with poor decision-making skills, and with little attention span. He doesn't take direction well from others, and his Soundproof ability only worsens his selective hearing. Rodney also likes to mess with other Pokemon around him through playful teasing and pranks. Despite these glaring personality traits, Rodney is not entirely a bad white-and-red sphere. He never, ever messes with Cal, or any other Pokemon that he'd be extremely close with. He is a very determined chap that is not easily scared by challenge, and would go to the ends of the earth to help out someone who he truly cares for.

Fighting style: Rodney is a very quick fighter, just like all Electrodes. He is AMAZING at dodging, and his attacks are powerful. His favourite moves are Thunderbolt, Swift, Rollout, Gyro Ball, Sonicboom, Screech, Taunt and Torment. He rarely uses any defensive or support moves and just prefers attacking things head on. Unfortunately, his moves and strategies are sloppy and poorly-planned, which can land him in trouble. Finally, his Explosion move is only used as a very last resort, or as a getaway tool for launching himself far away from a conflict.
