Xocolatl by Xerx-Iyozi

Xocolatl

Xerx-Iyozi

I've been thinking about branching out into alternate music personas for different genres. Iyozi the character is going to stick around, but some of the more wacky, out-there genres I want to dabble in will be represented by additional characters! Xoco here is a raver at heart and will represent happy hardcore and gabber. MAYBE speedcore, but that'll take some more practice. ;)

Meet Xocolatl! She's a chupacabra, and I took inspiration from a handful of animals when designing her. In her very earliest incarnations, her name was Skull Candy and she had a strong Day of the Dead theme. She was always going to be a hybrid between a Xolo dog and an axolotl, both linguistically associated with the Aztec god of death, lightning, dogs, and monsters. Her name is derived from the Nahuatl root word for chocolate. As she developed, her Xolo inspiration made me turn her into a chupacabra. I leaned into the cryptid aspects of the legend, basing her on sightings that reported chupacabras as hairless dogs rather than spiny goblins. Some of her in-universe species still have spines and look more reptilian, but they all have roughly canine features. The gills are unique to this interpretation of the chupacabra; they're functional and tough enough to not shrivel up on land, but they provide only minimal oxygen intake from water and chupacabras have to stay well-hydrated to keep them healthy.

Xocolatl lives in Cryptid's Quarter in the city of Legendston, a city full of anthro mythical beasts. She uses her boundless energy to work as a local delivery kid and she goes to music festivals and parties in her free time. She runs a lot of her deliveries on foot or by bicycle as opposed to driving; she doesn't own a car and she'd rather run anyway. She has a big appetite and a fast metabolism, and she is constantly dropping by convenience stores and butcheries between errands to load up on water, blood, and sugary snacks.
