Barred Owl Wood Burn by DancingVulture

Barred Owl Wood Burn

DancingVulture

After getting a taste for wood burning, I knew I wanted to keep doing more! So, I snatched up another piece of wood from the ol' pile and hopped to it. This time around is in honor of the first barred owl I'd ever seen! Back in late March (or was it early April? I can't keep track anymore!) my father took me owling! Basically it's birding, but with owls specifically in mind. I didn't even know until that day that barred owls are most active in the afternoon, around 3-4 pm in late winter/early spring. After a few failed attempts to call in a barred owl, my father's efforts finally paid off when we got our first response. This fella was so cute! He flew in super close and called down at us ("Humans, get out of here you butts!") before soaring over our heads and disappearing into the woods.
I wanted to imitate that feeling of this owl looming down at us with this piece. I think this turned out to be my favorite of the two, since I finally got comfortable with the wood burning tool! Again, this piece is done on a 20"x7" piece of wood.
