“I should go…” I said.“What happened to not leaving until I answered you?” he asked.

I looked up at him. My nerves were working against me, and I had never been so aware of Blake’s presence. It was all consuming, and radiating through me. His eyes were watching me, taking in every detail. My chest was rising and falling a lot more than it had been. I wished I could make it stop.

“What are you trying to draw out of me?” I asked, daring him to push me as I glared at him.

He was still holding my arm, and pulled at me so I was forced to take a step toward him. “Why is it so hard to accept that this isn’t something I can explain to you?”

The tension was too much. I pulled myself free of his grasp, ready to leave, but something stopped me. My mind was screaming at me to keep going, but I just couldn’t. That one moment of hesitation was all it took.

I turned back, still unable to control my breathing. I did want to know. I wanted to know what he meant. I wanted to feel whatever it was creeping inside of me, keeping me from leaving him. He was still there, watching me, waiting to see what I would do.

“Just give me one step, Anna,” he said.
