How do you go about picking subjects to draw. I notice in must of the characters they tend to run similar body types, not a bad thing, I saw a few pics of Rennamon and noticed that you changed her up a bit to fit your style and was just curious.
Tool, Perfect Circle, Puscifer, I've loved the music of Maynard James Keenan for years (even if he seems like an asshole, I'll judge the man separately from his work :))
-
ah! you give me too much credit i'm afraid, haha.
i put very little thought into most art, i don't really choose subjects ... hmm, i'd like to be more diligent. to be quite honest i am guilty of drawing very easy (for me) art, hence, it all kinda looks the same! i am so busy with other stuff i fall into that trap very easily and hardly ever pushing my boundaries. and oddly, my images (renamons for example) often look different from pic to pic because i still feel like i don't know what i'm doing half the time. i can't settle on a style or particular mood either. it can be frustrating ... i really need to buckle down and practice more once i have time to do so. i'm stuck in an art limbo of doing "easy" art, art i enjoy, and art i feel betters myself. i apologize for the ramble but you really got me thinking! thanks for your thoughts :)-
"Art that you enjoy" is a fine enough excuse to draw anything don't be ashamed of it. Especially since it is something that you give freely of yourself with only the half crazed ramblings of strangers across the internet as your only compensation (when they say anything. It is so hard at times conveying to people how important their feed back is. Artists live or die on it)
But with the unusual way you use lines to give a character energy even when standing still and the way you seem to effortlessly make color your bitch, it just makes me wonder about those more difficult aspects of your talent that you say you shy away from. When you say boundaries, what exactly do you mean? Backgrounds, poses, interacting characters? Even if the first few attempts are rough I would highly encourage you pursue these boundaries.
From personal experience I can tell you that conquering these boundaries is not as difficult a task as it seems. Overcoming even one of these barriers is incredibly rewarding and the elated feeling you get from it's conquest make the remaining boundaries easier to cross.
I do hope you continue making art that you enjoy , but you might just end up enjoying art that you struggled with just a tiny bit more :)
