Yondard #9

It has been a few days since Rahtinah and Taiga have started travelling together. While both have had some opportunity to get used to each other, neither of them have opened up to the other; about their pasts or their goals beyond some vague idea of one. Taiga accepted it, if he won't talk about his past, no reason to expect Rahtinah to do so as well.

Along their travels they had to pass by a Shaft. Taiga knew this, as he was headed towards a village he'd sometimes visit (and this was the fastest safe route), but Rahtinah seemed somewhat unwilling to take the route. He wasn't too terribly surprised, considering getting too close to a Shaft is death for any Yondard, either by torching their mass, or superheating the air. Even light from a shaft perturbs some. Taiga, however, found it a bit fascinating. Still, he tended to never spend much time thinking on them or why they are around.

Eventually convincing her to take the path, they went on. They got closer, but still maintained a safe distance, where the light only causes a warm, tingling feeling, but would leave no lasting harm so long as they don't stick around. Rahtinah, however, was still fearful.

"You know...we can detour if you want... you looked more bothered than I imagined you would be."

"..."

"We're perfectly safe... mostly. We'll pass by here shortly..."

"..."

"I admit, though, I find he Shafts kind of interesting..."

"They aren't. Naught but fire and deadly warmth, a deadly cause of an ephemeral visit... I hate it and it's ugly blight upon us."
