Maelenchaetes by zuckerdachs

Maelenchaetes

zuckerdachs

This is a project I've been working on for some time now. A friend of mine wrote a children's story about 25 years ago that reminded me very much of Persian folk tales. I am illustrating the dragon from said story in the style of medieval Persian art. This has a long, long way to go yet, and I'm loving every minute of it.

Drawn on cardstock, cut out with an X-acto knife, mounted on parchment. Inked with Staedtler brush pen, flat colored with Prismacolor marker, and detailed with metallic Prismacolor pencils.

A few days later Mercurio reached the edge of the desert, and found a cave, and inside the cave he found Maelenchaetes (the dragon), who right away captured poor Mercurio, and said, “Ho, small man from a faraway land, woe to you and anyone waiting for you, because now I will eat you in one bite!” Mercurio was very frightened of course, for the dragon was scaly and ugly and horrible and had big orange eyes and was so mean he didn’t even have a grandmother.
