A New Cooper by Zentina

A New Cooper

Zentina

"Hey, the name's Sylvia Smith; at least, that's what it was before I learned who I was. Or more importantly, who my father was. You see, I'm the daughter of the most infamous, notorious thief Sly Cooper. So, what's with the boring name? Let me tell you a little story:
When I was in the 6th grade, I was given an assignment to look for the most infamous of characters throughout history. Kind of a strange subject for a kid to write about, but whatever. I came across some crazy finds: Muggshot, an insane, steriod-infused gun-slinger; The Contessa, some rich shrink who pretended to be all for "criminal rehab" but just hypnotized her prisoners into telling her where they hid their loot; and some weird, metal thing called "Clockwork" that apparently did a lot of crazy stuff, but I couldn't find a whole lot. Needless to say he was a pretty bad guy.

Coming across these articles I started to notice some patterns: my mother just happened to be there when each of these bad guys were apprehended, and that she always mentioned the 'Sly Cooper' that got out of her grasp each time. This guy seemed a bit more awesome, so I decided to look him up; and low and behold, my dad sat right in the middle of my screen. I couldn't believe it. It was him, my dad, Sylvester Smith, was the world-renown Sly Cooper: Criminal Mastermind. I didn't get it, how was my dad, the boring guy who reads books, solves crosswords, and does field work for the police a "criminal mastermind?" I couldn't actually ask him. I mean, in hindsight, I probably could have, but I was 11.

Then, one day, walking home from school, I ran into my dad's friend Bentley. He usually came over to talk to my parents and tell me a fun science fact of the day (well, he thought it was fun). Dad said they had been friends since they were kids, so I thought maybe I could ask him. I made sure no one was nearby when I asked him; and as soon as I did, he grew quiet. Almost like he was thinking about more than just whether or not my dad was THE Sly Cooper. He said he didn't know what he was talking about, and that I should head on home.

I was a bit crushed, but I mean, what else could I do? A few years down the road (I got an 'A' on that paper by the way), I met Tao. He never told me his last name, still hasn't, said it's a personal thing. He said he told his family that he wanted to pursue music--rock music--and his grandfather disowned him. He didn't get too much into it. He was doing that for a while until he was kicked out of his band for, and I quote, "fighting in the mosh pits more than the fans." I had seen him a few times; he doesn't play bad music, he just has a bad time controlling his temper. Then there's Constance Ringtail. She's probably the smartest person I've ever met, besides Bentley. No, maybe more than Bentley. Most of the time it seems like she doesn't care about anything, and that's usually true. She wears these old patched-up lab coat that her aunt gave her. Apparently, she was like this really smart scientist and was Constance's inspiration. Also, Constance's only living relative until they threw her in an insane asylum when she started shouting about 'someone coming for the coon.' No one thought too much of it. When we first started hanging out, Constance wasn't all too thrilled about Tao. And the same could be said for him. But they grew on each other, now they just argue about 60% of the time. It's weird, but it works out, cause we're a great team. Oh, I forgot to tell you, I started getting in touch with the family business on my own. And these guys, well, I guess I ACTUALLY first met them during a recon session, and we just clicked one at a time.

One day, on the way home, we ran into a rather disturbed Bentley. He was talking some crazy stuff about how something had come and kidnapped my parents. Said it was an 'old friend.' He said he needed all of us to come with him He had been watching us throughout the years and noticed our chemistry; said that we had become a great team. At first I was confused about what he ACTUALLY saw us do, but then I stepped into his house, which was more of a lab than I remembered. Papers and schematics were everywhere. The only strange things that stood out were this book called the "Thevious Racconus" and this cane that my father used to hang in his office. Bentley said there was no time to explain and that I needed to train along the way. He said I was right about my father and that he changed his name at my mother's request. Safety reasons, apparently. We gathered up some supplies, the book and the cane, and luck from Bentley. Bentley entrusted Constance with all of his equipment and said that as soon as he got to our destination, we would meet with a friend of my fathers who would help me find clues to discover where my parents are and to teach me my next skill.

I have to find my parents.

You better watch out, cause there's a new thief in town."
