I have a couple different ideas on what to do with them, depending on the type of setting they're inserted into.

Modern: A trendy 90s kid, Samantha was surprised one day when a mugger attempted to corner her, only for her tail to suddenly sprout a mouth and devour him. Once the shock was over she named her tail's new personality "Clyde" and tries to keep him from eating anyone who doesn't deserve it.
Though now she's wondering about a couple past dates who never called back.
