Zal and the Ice Princess By Luthien Nightwolf

Zal

He had seen her many times in this particular part of the forest, each time from a distance - and each time, she had regarded him with curiosity, her blue eyes gazing into his across the clearing. There was something haunting about those eyes, and painful. Zal felt a great sadness looming about when he looked at her but he never could get near enough to ask her why.
Only this time, she had allowed him to approach. His footsteps crunching in the snow, he made his way toward her ever so slowly, hoping she would not flee as she had before. She held her ground, her face expressionless. A few more paces and he was standing before her. She studied him with caution but said nothing.
Zal could think of no words, and without thinking instead merely held out his hand to touch her face - a simple gesture of kindness and a brave move on his part, one that he wasn't sure would be appreciated. But before his fingers could touch the soft white fur of her cheek she backed away, shaking her head.
"You mustn't", she said, her voice soft and pleading.
His ears flattened, and he looked at the ground, inwardly kicking himself for intruding on her space so soon. He was about to apologize when she spoke again.
"Please understand..." Her eyes moved from his down to the rose he held in his hand. He had nearly forgotten it, but as he had planned to give it to her anyway, he offered it to her.
"I brought this for you, " he said quietly. The faerie smiled quickly, a brief flash of warmth that quickly disappeared, leaving behind only the sad expression she always seemed to be wearing when he saw her. He extended the rose towards her, but rather than taking it from him, she stepped forward until the rose touched her cheek.
Zal watched as the rose, once vibrant red, turned to a crystalline blue and white, a solid shell of ice quickly traveling down the stem to his fingers. He dropped it quickly in the snow, and as he turned his eyes back towards the mysterious faerie she vanished into a cloud of vapor.

Not too long ago, Luthien made a new fairy character, named Talvi, which means "winter" in Finnish, and I loved the way she looked, especially her eyes, so I commissioned a piece of Zal with her, and told Luthien she could do whatever she wanted, no boundaries on content or rating.

She used that opportunity to flesh Talvi out, when I found it this evening, I was awe struck, it was adorable, and she even did a little story to boot! and even though Luthien doesn't know me very well, I think she did a great job capturing who I am as a person, and what I'm like.

Talvi is such a beautiful character, and those eyes really draw my attention, It's a shame she's so lonely and sad :(
