Samhain is a Celtic holiday celebrated on October 31st where they wore costumes (such as animal skin and heads) and lit up huge sacred bonfires to ward off ghosts. They burnt crops and animals as sacrifices to the Celtic deities. The evening before was known as All Hallows Eve and later Halloween.
