This version of their model set the overall basis for their current design: their heads became wider and decorated with spines to give an "ominously regal" look. The mechanical reach of their limbs increased and the structure of their thorax and abdomen became more flexible. What was once a simple two-parted pincer split into five separate "fingers", each one essentially a massive tungsten-carbide blade.

They have been remodeled completely again since. I feel this version was definitely an improvement, though its polycount was much too high to be very practical for animation. They were also too "clean" looking, as their current aesthetic involves a more rusted and corroded look.
