Sneaking Under The Moss

Woofle

I should probably keep uploading the music along with the story, huh?

This is the BGM that plays in a couple of cave areas the characters will visit throughout the story! Not every cave, though, mind. Some have themes of their own. Enjoy :D

I always liked cave themes sounding like this... like how Yoshi's Island and Dust: An Elysian Tail did sounding all spacious, mysterious yet whimsical~

Yoshi's Island!!! Perhaps the best cave theme ever. It was part of what inspired this one, in fact! :D I never got far enough in Dust to hear the cave theme. ;~; I'll have to check it out!

Ooh, nice. It really fits a cave or canyon theme.

Oooh, yeah, I could totally see it in a canyon, too! :D That would be awesome. x3

Ohh this is an excellent cave theme! It sounds very fun & whimsical. Is this for a kind of tropical cave or something? It definitely sounds like it would fit in well with a tropical climate too.
I especially love the drive of the percussive elements!

It covers a whoooole bunch of caves, actually. Some tropical, some not. The main factor that gets this cave theme used over one of the other cave themes is that they were caves that were once inhabited by people ages ago, who left behind their old dwellings and paintings and whatnot. It kind of does sound tropical now that you say it though! XD

The strong percussive sounds at the beginning, the rattles and the xylophone (I think) backing really lend a very primal and airy feeling to the beginning of the song. When the main tune comes in at around 1min (is that chimes? I'm not sure what that instrument is), it really does enhance the open feeling. As you marked on the soundcloud file, the song progresses significantly at 1:45. It still retains the wonderful primal feel, but it picks up a lot of extra power. For a cave theme, this sounds like when you get to the awe inspiring parts of the cave, the vast caverns and open galleries with bio luminescent mosses in different colors, perhaps a small underground stream, and beautiful rock formations. The sort of thing you build with the idea of the sight and sound coupling to leave a player speechless and still for a few seconds.

Yeah, that's a xylo at the start! :D I used a bunch of really bizarre sounding bell-synths in this one, and although I didn't originally intend it, one ended up being the lead! XD It worked pretty well, and I'm glad to hear you liked it, too!

I started doing a sort of... thing this time, through, since I'm not going to redo the soundtrack again, because I've been working on this too long -- but anyway, that thing is that I make the tune quite a bit different the second time through so that folks won't get bored when listening to it while they read. It kind of keeps things fresh.

I always pictured it the same way, too! The cave sort of 'opens up' into a beautiful vista right at that point in my mind.
