Zolder is a village deep in the great forests of Lurafelle. It is the furthest east of all the villages and cities in Lurafelle, and one of the oldest that still remains.
In a bygone era, Lurafelle was home to fox-tribes, who kept to themselves in the woods. Villages like Zolder were the norm, dotting the landscape. Made up of hollowed out trees, and small dens, these villages rarely traded with others, and mostly focused on hunting for food, hunting for monsters, and growing delicious berries (which ultimately gave way to brewing delicious forms of alcohol.)
Lurafelle, for a long time, was split by a dichotomy, where southerners, and westerners built large cities out of the woods, and adopted bits of culture from neighboring Dascillia, and easterners, deep in the woods, stuck to the old ways. Eventually, the traditions of the eastern edge of the country were swallowed up by the religion of the Goddess, Elia, and their culture faded away. Still, bits of the culture can be seen still standing in Zolder.
Funfact for gearheads: Another town named after a racing circuit. :V
Love the soft, elegant feel to this! Definitely more suiting to a forest village than a racing circuit. ;)
Foxes with alcohol? Who woulda guessed? ;D The whole Highlander approach is my biggest problem with most religions.
The racetrack nomenclature thing is something that I wasn't originally going to point out, since it encompasses more than a few town names in the story, but it seemed silly not to state that's what I was doing 'cause someone'd notice eventually. Oddly, none of the towns have a damned thing to do with their real-life not-city-but-actually-tarmac counterparts. :V Chalk it up to boredom.
And yeah, those foxes sure do love their drinking! A main focus of the story is also that Highlander-esque nature of religions. There are three of them in the story, all battling for supremacy, and walking over whole governments to do it. Fun with politics and religion! :D
