Tempestuous Ravine

Woofle

This song plays in two canyon dungeons, both of which are governed by wind-related puzzles. The first of these is the Tempestuos Ravine in sourthern Kerlynzia, where workers have actually managed to channel the wind into pipes and tunnelways to try and keep the canyon less windy, seeing as the canyon would make a great trade route. Unfortunately this plan failed spectacularly, and as such, it is not only a terrible shortcut, but very dangerous.

The canyon was also the basis for several wind-related experiments utilizing ancient technology found in some of the craters in western Kerlynzia. Junkers have assembled all manners of turbines here, but ultimately moved on to other things, although a few still live here.

    My comments are in the SoundCloud thing. I'm making better use of it now lol

      XD This is truly the best thing about soundcloud in my opinion! I love that you can do that! I'm going to get a pro account when I have a little more money, and from then on, -all- my uploads should be on there, so you always can!

    I like the guitar bit that kicked in halfway, that was pretty rad. There's an undeniable "airy" undertone to the whole song, but also a kind of "progressive" feeling that's hard to explain. Like, the turbines are sort of pushing forward at a steady pace. It makes sense in my head, it really does. Diggin' it, and I'm so sorry I haven't been commenting up until this point!

      This sounds like something I'd hear in Sim City! That's what's giving me the "progressive" feeling, I think.

      That ended up being my favorite part, too. When I first sat down to do the song, I always intended it to 'drop' into the heavy/chunky guitars and stuff, but be built over a weird, airy base. It wasn't until 4 full years later that I actually got it to sound right, though. xD
      I'm really happy the instruments sound airy enough. I was really worried that they'd sound too watery, instead, and was like, freaking out when going through my VSTs looking for the right types of sounds..! >_<;;;
      I can dig it! I get what'cha mean! I love doin' stuff like that, songs that like, evolve, and it ended up really paying off here. (Also, you've made me want to reinstall Sim City now! Oh goood. xD)
      No worries on the commenting thing, too! I'm glad you are now, though! :D I gotta catch up on your stuff, too!!

        The heavy/chunky guitar immediately reminded me of the Rockman Zero games, if you've ever heard the soundtracks/played them (some of my favorite games ever, killer character design + music). I wouldn't be shocked at all to find some similar music in your gallery one of these days.

        ..and my power just flickered so hitting the send button this message! Yay! (getting theses songs together sounds like it's one hell of a process)

          Rockman Zero games

          I love you.
          Those games were actually a huge source of inspiration for me, admittedly! A couple of my upcoming songs have some pretty heavy inspiration from them (including one hidden on soundcloud; https://soundcloud.com/leila-wilson-woofle/beta-vicious-riptide ) and the Megaman ZX games, too! Such happy memories.

          Eek! Is your power okay? D: (Also, yeah, gathering this whole soundtrack up as well as writing it has been... pretty daunting... to say the least. But still enjoyable! Some people have hobbies, I have this. xD

            Hahaha, that's awesome, I need to keep digging back through your gallery then. I would give my left nut to be able to get my guitar to sound like the stuff from Rockman Zero, or my favorite band. Your avatar reminds me a bit of Siarnaq/Phantom, was always meaning to say that to you. God I miss those games.

              Hey, don't give that up, you might end up needing it, and the right one would get lonely! XD!!!
              I think once you get your hardware sorted out, you can honestly have a go at playing in a Rockman Zero style. :D III (Triple I , the composers from Rockman Zero) don't even use real guitars (that I know of) so you'd be even more awesome in that you were using the real thing! :D I think so, anyway. ;~;

              • Link

                Hahaha, yeah, that's true I suppose. Oh yeah, I have all of III's work, it's sooo good.. though I seriously didn't know it wasn't actual guitars. That means it might be even -harder- to get that sound! x.x

                  Well, I think that on some of the OSTs they're usin' actual guitars. The OST tracks (especially for Megaman ZX) sound waaaay different than what was in the games a lot of the time, although there are a few bits shared between the songs. I'm not sure if they had to be compressed to fit on the cart or what. XD Either way, real guitars are best. ♥

    Another really amazing piece! Makes me really wish I still had a good program for this kind of thing and could mess around with music making again. Not to mention this is encouragement to get back into making speed paints.

      Eee! Thank you so much! Y'know, the program I use is called Acoustica Mixcraft (I use version 6) -- it might be worth looking into, if you want to get back into music-making, as it's not only easy to use, but incredibly affordable! Definitely look it up if you get time! :3 Also, yay! Speedpaints! I followed you, too. I thought I'd done that earlier, but hadn't. xD That's been rectified!

        Haha, thanks. And I will have to look into that.

    it's pretty solid. i enjoyed listening to it, but got thrown off a bit on the first listen because of the polyphonic kind of stuff you had going on in the background most of the time

    it feels like it could be a little more composed together if you were to listen to it by itself, but as the soundtrack to a game i think it works out pretty well -- i could definitely imagine some settings that could go with the different elements in the song

    and yes the wind instruments you used and the fluttery melodies did give the track a feeling of wispy/airiness

      Thanks much!

      The reason there are so many strange sounds/filters/gates in the song, was to help convey the feeling of airiness, and the way that the areas of the game that its used in are wind-powered. I'll admit, that means it can be a bit distracting to listen to it just as 'a song', but by that same coin, everything in my gallery (bar maybe 2-3 submissions) was written for a game of some sort.
      As a result, there isn't too much to listen to here in terms of just plain ol' music, so this is is sort of a trend. They're made to convey a image or a feeling, and have to be complicated enough that listeners won't get super-bored on the 5th or 6th loop.
