Ferrar had once been a great port in northern Espis. Although it was locked onto a small strip of land by the great, gray and rocky mountains that ringed most of Espis, it had been one of the few clear portals to the vast blue expanse that opened up trade with other continents. It had, anyway.

Ten years ago, the Sea Death had swooped in like a bird of prey on the unsuspecting port, and in its wake, the city dried up in the dust. This was a common story and a common affliction in the years to come, for towns all over Elancia's tri-continent area and beyond, but Ferrar was one of the first, and one of the most shocking. Within months, it was nearly a ghost town.

Although the water never turned to sand near Ferrar, it remained empty, blank, and slate. Lake Ferrar nearby, was unaffected, being at a higher elevation, and not touching the sea, and it and its river still provided fish to eat, for the few hardy Ferraris willing to remain in town. Slowly, it converted from a dead, ghost port, into a thriving fishing village, roughly 3/10ths of the size it had been. Ferrar mostly is built onto the lake, overlooking the sea below now.

Three months prior to Derrik's arrival, the seas near Ferrar became violent and cold once more. The waves began to roll in, the winds returned. Much to the shock of many an Espian and Ferrari alike. Slowly, hesitantly, traders have returned to Ferrar, as have ships. The small fishing village may yet finally have become a port once again.

The locals say the Sea Goddess appeared to them, and have set up a church in her honor, where they leave gifts, and show their devotion to her for bringing the sea back. ~ Elancia Chronicles: Order of New Gods, season 4.
