Wolf-Samurai

It is with great pleasure that I present now another piece done by my friend from DA of my fursona Okami-Dono in his Sumo attire about to spar with the fox knight Sir Vulpes (owned by my friend Vulpine-Knight here: https://www.weasyl.com/~vulpineknight).

The two both utilize a wrestling style native to their homelands, Sumo wrestling and Palé wrestling (AKA Greek wrestling as it is known by today). Cambion-Hunter has been very interested in it, so I looked it up on a whim. To my own surprise, I found how similar it is to Sumo wrestling:
1.) Both forbid moves like strangulation, hair-pulling, bending fingers, gripping the crotch area, kicking, poking eyes, punching and simultaneously striking both the opponent's ears.
2.) Both have it so you lose if you fall out of a ring.
3.) Both involve wearing a single piece of clothing (mawashi for Sumo and loincloth for Palé).
4.) Both are considered a national sport to their respective nations.

Palé was the most popular organized sport in Ancient Greece. Similar to Sumo, a point was scored when one player touched the ground with the back, hip or shoulder, or was forced out of the wrestling-area. Three points had to be scored to win the match. Palé was the first competition to be added to the Olympic games that was not a race-type of game. From what I have seen, Palé has contestants take up stances similar to Sumo; even bowing to each other respectfully before and after the match. Besides culture and attire, the only other main difference between them is that Sumo involves striking the opponent with slaps while Palé involves more of submission holds.

Both wrestling styles were also utilized by warriors of their respective regions. Sumo was taught to samurai while Palé was taught to knights. Both styles not only helped said warriors enhance their physical strength and endurance, but were also very useful in dealing with larger opponents.

In this East vs West match-up, who will win? The Sumo wrestling samurai or the Palé wrestling knight? No weapons or armor. Using just pure strength, endurance and resolve alone. Two similar wrestling styles going up against each other. Who could ask for more?
