A quick doodle of how Hans would end up in the case that he survives the story. 

Of course he would get prosthetics. The cane is for security because artificial knee joints are a pain. 
Also, a wing amputation. It's not like he would ever fly again. This would take place several month after the initial trauma, so his body could take the shock of losing another limb. He's full of phantom pain (and screwed body language) anyway, at least he gets something like balance back.
