The Wolf and the Butterfly by WindSong83 (critique requested)

The Wolf and the Butterfly (critique requested)

WindSong83

A commission from a lady who wanted "a piece with a wolf and butterfly, showing a strong bond between the two" She then said that her favorite color is purple. We messaged back and forth for a few days and this is what we came up with.

I've added jewels in the eyes and some glitter in the fur of the wolf. And yes, the wolf eyes are purple and there are some purple in the fur to help tie everything together. She was really happy to watch the process of the piece being put together.

This is realy nice to watch. I love rhinestones in eyes. Although in digital they never come out as catchy as they are in real. I m sure your customer is very pleased with this one. :D

No some personal critic part because this pictures was shown as "critics requestet". Please be aware that never the less I realy like this one to look at and I like it. I am aware, that it is now to late to chance something. But perhaps it helps next time. I dont want to be rude, I m sorry if I wil use unpolite wording in cause of my bad english skills.

    1. The composition is very symmetric and focused on the center of the piece. The eyes, nose and the butterfly an the center line. This focus is a bit bothered by the slope body of the butterfly which leaves the center line. For more harmonic appearance try to follow the center line with your objects.

    2. The Butterfly misses some connection to the wolf. It looks like just sticked on. A shadow would change this impression. Something that shows that the wolf and the butterfly are affected by the same lightings.

    3. The wolf is cute! Kepp on the good work :D

thx so much for the constructive critic!

I always work closely with any commissioner and they approve every step of the way. I originally thought about making it more systematical with the butterfly, but then I wanted it to be more of the focal point of the piece. So one way to do this was make it off center a bit. I tried to connect the two with the unnatural purple eyes of the wolf as well as the purple butterfly (commissioner's favorite color), however, I didn't take in account the missing shadow. Thx for pointing that out!
