A Christmas gift for SageKorppi on DA! For a while she's been urging me to paint a Lammergeier, and I've always meant to. Finally I got off my butt and did it! :D Lammergeiers (also known as Bearded Vultures) are amazing birds. They pick up bones and drop them onto stones to smash them open. This sounds easier than it actually is, and it it takes years for birds to perfect this technique! They break them open to get the nummy marrow inside, and will also eat bone shards. Their stomachs, with a pH of around 1, dissolve the bones in about a day!

Watercolor on cold-press Fabriano, 8 X 10 inches
