A Christian is saved by 2 things: the death and the blood of Jesus Christ.
We're not saved by just the death, or just the blood.
It's a 2 element process.
These 2 elements, death and blood, are clearly symbolized in the Lord's supper:
*The bread symbolizes the death of Jesus.
*The wine symbolizes the shed blood of Jesus.
The word "blood" in the Bible is not just a symbolic word for the death of Christ.
Check out Revelation 1:5--
"And from Jesus Christ, who...washed us from our sins in his own blood,"
If the word "blood" is just a word symbol for His death, let's replace the word "blood" with "death".
"And from Jesus Christ, who...washed us from our sins in his own death,"
Huh?? That makes no sense at all.
You can only be washed by a liquid: BLOOD.
Even more proof that we are saved by both the death and blood of Jesus Christ:
"Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood"
If the word "blood" simply symbolizes Christ's death, let's try another word swap.
Here's the original verse:
1 Peter 1:2
"Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied."
Now, let's swap blood for death.
1 Peter 1:2
"Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the death of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied."
Whaaaaat?? How does one sprinkle death?
Besides, what is that 'sprinkling' even referring to?
Let's take a look at the Old Testament.
"Then shall he kill the goat of the sin offering, that is for the people, and bring his blood within the vail, and do with that blood as he did with the blood of the bullock, and sprinkle it upon the mercy seat, and before the mercy seat:"
And since we know the Old Testament animal sacrifices were a foreshadowing of Jesus' ultimate sacrifice, check out this verse, speaking of Jesus:
"Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us."
Now, let's put this all together.
*The mercy seat, which sat on top of the Ark of the Covenant, resided in the holy place (Exodus 26:34)
*The blood of a sin offering was to be sprinkled onto the mercy seat. (Leviticus 16:15)
*Jesus was our sin offering. (Ephesians 5:2)
*Jesus' blood was sprinkled somewhere (1 Peter 1:2)
*Jesus, after His crucifixion and resurrection, entered the Heavenly holy place by His blood (Hebrews 9:12)
PS: Christ entered the Heavenly temple with the Heavenly Ark and the Heavenly mercy seat (Hebrews 9:24), not an earthly one.
All this evidence seems to be clearly telling us that Jesus sprinkled His blood onto the Heavenly mercy seat.
Therefore, the physical, literal, red blood of Christ is directly required for our salvation.
