Made for an art trade with Techno-Universal (https://www.deviantart.com/techno-universal). It took me far too much time to make, but I am really happy how it turned out.

Techno's original idea was to make our characters in front of a windy tribal village. But, oh boy, I sure took a different approach. First I spent a few days to find an interesting warrior tribe that has enough info about them. Eventually I chose the Zulu tribe from Africa. The wild decision that followed was to make Africanized versions of our OCs (from left to right): Thoma (originally a gray rabbit) as an African savanna hare, Techno (originally as a gray pony) as a zebra, and Spencer (originally I have no idea what) as an African wild dog.

The characters are located in a kraal, a Zulu homestead. The beehive shaped huts are called iQukwane. The pottery shown is used for beer brewing and storing/serving water/beer. The Zulu have ceremonial dances accompanied with drums so that is the reason for having a drum.

The characters are in Zulu warrior gear. Originally, only men could be warriors, so I had to use some imagination for a female warrior. The oval cowskin shields are called isihlangu. Zulu warriors used 3 types of weapons: iklwa (a short spear with a broader head which is used for stabbing, named after a sound it makes after pulling it out of the target's body, Techno is wielding one on the picture), throwing spear (Spencer is holding one) and knobkerrie (a club, named after a sound it makes when bashing someone, Thoma is holding one).
