My friends and I probably shouldn't have been sitting around bored out of our skulls. We probably shouldn't have decided to go up to that old abandoned shack outside our neighborhood. We probably shouldn't have climbed in through a window that had been forced open long ago. We probably shouldn't have investigated the closet underneath the decaying staircase. My friend probably shouldn't have picked up that jar of glowing powder with the faded label. And it's more than probable that I shouldn't have asked to see it for myself.

But I did. And when my friend unexpectedly tossed it my way, my paws forgot how to work properly, and the jar fell to the ground and shattered apart, sending up a great cloud of golden dust around me. I suppose the one thing I did do right was take off my pants in time before my growing body busted them open. Though I am wondering how I'll put them back on... I never did like being bare on my lower half, and now it's my lower two-thirds.

Unnecessary story aside, there were two sparks for this piece. The first was simply wanting to draw myself as a taur, which never really took off when I first had the idea. Then, a few days ago, Ghoul pointed out a spelling mistake in the title of a recent submission--I had accidentally written "Voltaure" instead of "Voltaire". And that resparked the whole idea, which came into fruition yesterday when I said to myself, "Self, I feel like drawing something."
"That's a great idea, Self! What are you going to draw?"
"I don't know; any ideas, Self?"
"How 'bout a taur?"
"Brilliant thinking, Self!"
"Well thank you Self."
