D-92 Heavy Duty Hardsuit Refsheet

victor-933

Typically known as the "Gentle Giant", or more commonly by the less flattering nickname "Fatsuit", the D-92 is an aging design that nevertheless is a mainstay in the Hadeans' more hazardous endeavours. Due in no small part to its rugged construction, it is not uncommon to see D-92s with over forty years of service.
Unlike most powered suits, the D-92 does not have segmented tail armor; instead, its users must coil their tails in a compartment below the suit's main backpack. The backpack itself houses all recyling systems, as well as the main microreactor. The entire suit is protected by thick outer plating, KineSorb gel, and assorted heavy metals for radiation shielding, and fully sealed against outside atmospheres. The suit also possesses triple-redundant FlashGel seals. FlashGel is typically used aboard starships as an emergency breach sealant. It is kept under high pressure within its own layers. When a layer is breached, the FlashGel erupts outwards, and the sudden decrease in pressure causes it to shock-harden into a strong resin that forms a temporary seal in the event the hull is compromised.
The D-92 is notable in its use of the Integrated Monitoring System, which analyzes the user's vital signs and displays a simple metric on the suit's back, in the form of a luminous bar. This bar changes colors depending on the user's current status, with light blue denoting good health and red denoting a medical emergency. In the event of user incapacitation or death, the suit is capable of autonomously retreating to a defined safe spot. Unlike most Powersuits, the D-92 does not use a Motor Cortex Interface implant. Instead, the suit simply registers the user's movements and does its best to follow along, with stringent safety protocols preventing it from moving too fast or outside the user's range of motion. This allows the suit to be worn by a wider range of users.
The suit is entered and exited by lifting up the 'faceplate' and simply climbing in. Once powered on, the suit's internal cushions adjust to firmly yet comfortably hold the user in place. In another contrast to typical powered suits, the D-92's fingers are not 'worn' as gloves; instead, the user slips their hands into tracking gauntlets situated in the suit's forearms, and its hands follow the user's movements. Pressure sensors in the suit's fingers transmit information to the central computer, which in turn inflates or deflates gel sacs in the tracking gauntlets to provide haptic feedback for the user.
The suit's overall durability, as well as its recycling and nourishment systems, have been known to allow users to remain suited up for over a week, as demonstrated during the tragic aftermath of the 2488 Magnitude 9.8 earthquake on Altirran, where over four hundred structures completely collapsed and trapped several thousand Hadeans. The D-92 was a critical component of the relief efforts there, easily powering through rubble to reach survivors.
