Demons are too literal

Viciviser

(Old art)

My first drawing ever of Mortmercaton, the death demon who started me on a series of drawing death demons and their ilk!

Mortmercaton roughly means "dealing in death" in that he is the death merchant. He grants life to those desperate enough to form a contract with him. As typical of demons he has the mortal sign off on their soul which he gets to keep and do with as he pleases. Usually devouring the life-force of it at his whim.

Speaking of whims, he often does as he pleases. Let alone he has a physical body so he has a tendency to mingle with mortals much more than his "siblings."

Man: "You can seduce me all you like, but you will never take my heart."

Mortmercaton rams his claw through the man's ribcage and rips out his heart then pauses as he looks at the organ seizing up as it spits out the blood it had been pumping before it jerks a few times and goes still. The demon throws a handkerchief over the face of the recently departed.

Mortmercaton: "Mortals are so foolish. They dare me that I cannot take their hearts from them, and yet I always do."

He states with a tinge of confusion as to why they would ever think it hard for him.

"You'll be the death of me".
    "Probably".

    Gotta love literal-minded characters.
