design commission for avisk on fa. they wanted a monster that was a bit of a hybrid between a frilled shark and a viperfish. something that conveys a sense of creeping about and generally being a slick and oily gross beast

while the viperfish is plenty menacing, i felt utilizing a balance leaning towards the frilled shark would be more effective, creating something more unsettling and eerie rather than directly frightening. this hybrid is something that would slither around very quietly and be difficult to see, and that is the producer of fear, not just the fact that it is something toothy and snarly

also a fun fact about frilled sharks, they have the longest gestation of any known vertebrate, lasting somewhere around three and a half years before the babies are birthed
