The Society of Peoples Against Shapeshifters by Utanith

We are the Society of Peoples Against Shapeshifters (SPAS). We are a varied group; from humans to gryphons to foxes, and in a number of colors that rivals our number of species. We come from every professional background, and every political mindset. We are, at heart, a political group. We want regulation in the form of legislature, and we campaign in order to acheive that goal. What we seek is to limit shapeshifters - They present, without a doubt, a threat to our society. When one can change their shape at will - Whether or not it requires a reagent, and no matter how expensive - That person becomes an issue. They can commit crimes and subsequently change their appearance, even their species; one of sound mind might even do so beforehand, thoroughly defeating the usefulness of witnesses and surveillance equipment used to thwart criminal acts. At any time a shapeshifter can assume the form of someone you know, someone you love; they can use their abilities to get close to you, or worse, close to someone in a position of power. The list of dangerous uses goes on and on - Imagine the shapeshifter who uses his power to become a creature with deadly natural defenses; perhaps something with a potentially fatal bite like the Tsetse fly or something with sheer destructive power like a dragon. Nothing is outside the realm of possibility. As part of our mission, we have set out three things we wish to accomplish:

  1. Mandatory registration of all shapeshifters, including information on necessary reagents and any limitations to their ability,
  2. Mandatory identification visible at all times, permanently affixed in some way, and
  3. Legislative limitations on the usage of shapeshifting.

It has come to our attention that, recently, an extremist group or multiple extremist groups have been claiming to be a part of the SPAS in connection to their actions. We have had reports of kidnappings, mutilations, torture, and killings. We do NOT condone any of these actions; as is stated above, we seek to resolve our issues via government. We understand that other peoples' opinions may differ from ours, and that the only proper way to resolve that is through a democratic process. Forcing our beliefs on people will only further aggravate the issue. That being said, we offer this message to the extremist groups: Cease your actions, or cease claiming to be a part of the SPAS. You are doing more harm than good, and inflaming our relationships with those inside the shapeshifting community.

As a show of good faith, we will be offering services to those shapeshifters and their families that were affected by the actions of these extremist groups. We will offer legal counsel to victims in the hopes that cooperative effort can help to bring those responsible to justice. We have a team of enchanters ready to assist those who have reportedly been the victims of strong enchantments. We are also offering self-defense classes and limited protective services for those shapeshifters who feel threatened by the actions of these extremist groups. We know that what we're offering isn't much, and that it can't help those families who lost a loved one to these groups. We only hope that you will accept our condolences; perhaps together we can help to bring those responsible to justice.

The Society of Peoples Against Shapeshifters

The Society of Peoples Against Shapeshifting is a group I intend to include in my writings more in the future; I figured I ought to give them a more solid presence. While not just a hard description of the group, I feel this does a decent job of presenting them. Really, it's something I'd expect to see them put out as a press release.

Some important things I should explicitly say about this group:

  • The main body (i.e., not the extremists) is non-violent and does actually want to accomplish their goals democratically.
  • In terms of size, they definitely aren't a mainstream group - Think maybe 15% of the population (For the US that's about 50,000 people)

There's more to be said about this group, but I don't need much more than this right now. I'll probably write more later on.

That's actually really neat, I think any sufficiently advanced society in a world with shapeshifters would have something like this. I'd totally take this as a headcanon.
