A-Z Challenge word : "Aaaaaa"

The tropical derpus slug, a common nuisance. Residing largely in the jungle canopy with a staple diet of leafy vegetation and fruits. It's eyes move independently of one another to compensate for the vulnerability of their slow movement. When no immediate danger is sensed, they "derp" between one another in a frog-like chatter to socialise and attempting to climb higher in their social structure. Startling them will cause them to fall silent and roll their eyes about to search for danger, but when feeling threatened their calls change to a loud human-like vocalisation of "AAAAAAAAAAAAA", which is normally sudden enough to startle unfamiliar predators away.

Whilst ultimately harmless even in numbers, their overpopulation of certain T1 planets can cause psychological wear upon colonists operating around them frequently. Can be dislodged by throwing rocks or giving them a firm jab with a stick. When the surface slime has been cooked or scraped off, what little core meat there is is perfectly edible.
