Jupiter, The Turbulent Giant by Unownace

Jupiter, The Turbulent Giant

Unownace

Sometimes when I'm feeling really low on motivation but I still want to keep my art skills sharp and get in the zone, I go back to an ooold favourite of mine; space art. Especially Jupiter. There's just something about it's colourful contrasting turbulent cloud bands and gallery of unique moons that's so satisfying to draw and to just...stare at.

And over the years one iconic feature of this giant planet that I've never been able to get right...was that turbulence. All my previous attempts looked way too "smooth." So I did some experimenting with the Photoshop smudge tool to make little swirls in the cloud bands to try and emulate that turbulent flow were the jet-streams meet. There's still room for improvement I think but I feel like I;m getting a bit closer to truly nailing it.

Also Europa in the foreground and I.O. in the distance off the the left actively erupting because why not?
