mostly this was an attempt to draw the way he dressed when he was younger: simple gowns, little if any jewelry, hair flowing in the wind, all that. after The Ordeal he got sharp around the edges, and started wearing high collars, metal jewelry, tighter corsetry/stays and more undercarriages.
