One month ago, I nearly passed away, surviving something that kills 72% of its victims in the ER. My three week hospital stay and four surgeries in that time gave me a lot of time to think. The ordeal really changed my perspective on a lot of things.

Most importantly, though, I’m incredibly grateful for the ones who were there for me, helped me, and continue to be incredible support during my ongoing recovery.

I also am beyond grateful for my care from the hands of the surgical staff and nurses, and owe my life to the ER staff’s quick actions. As well as, goddamn, thank god for modern medicine and procedures and access to them.

I still flash back to what happened on Halloween, and likely will for a while. I still have a lot of re-caging to do, and that’s okay! I’m still here, I’m still alive, goddamnit. And I’ll be taking extra-large bites out of life and appreciating it as much as I can from here onward.

All this to say. Appreciate what you got. The people, the places, the memories. Because it sure as hell can get snuffed out in an instant.
