Giger Tribute (Inktober 31)

TristanAlexander

My final picture for Inktober is inspired by the works of H.R. Giger creator of the Alien from the movie of the same name. "I had this nearly finished before Midnight but not quite, so it is a little late but oh well. Doing a picture for each day of the month was an interesting exorcise, I will have to do it again sometime. "Giger Tribute" (not a great title but all I could think of), 6 x 9, Micron pen and white pen on grey toned paper. Original and prints available

I wonder what the man would think about the new video game. On the one hand, seeing his creation fully rigged and animated, there's a beauty to it that I didn't notice before. On the other hand... it's a video game. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkHY2ksJqNQ

And is it just me, or did your inkwork improve over the course of this? To my untrained eyes, the last ones have a more fluid style than the first ones, if I had to try and put my finger on it, I'd say they "pop out" more, like better 3d perspective.

Considering all the things he was into I suspect he would love that his creatures are in a game.

As for my inking getting better as I went, to some degree that is most likely true but only because I was out of practice. I used to do tons of black and white works, Stippling was one thing I was known for, but as time went by and reproducing color work became easier and cheaper, I have stopped doing much black and white. Lack of practice does show and it takes awhile to get back to being comfortable with the medium again.
