Me just joking around.
That fairy "pointer" in Zelda who has become an internet meme (everyone agrees it is annoying, but I didn't care.) They needed something to be a cursor in the 3d environment. they got creative and made it a fairy flying over the chest/monster/townsperson instead of just an arrow or diamond or whatever.http://zeldawiki.org/File:Young_Link_Navi.png
They then needed it make some kind of sound to alert the player. It's not bad, it just says it over and over and over! This is what annoys people and became meme-ified.

Anyway, now that I think about it, it's just me (my generation of gamers) programmed to see that fairy in any ball-with-insect-wings design (which are not all that common though!)
