Drawn in 1999. I drew this Ringtail after researching what their facial pattern had looked like. There was something that really bothered me about how I had used to draw Sheila.

This is a good reason why you shouldn't base all your references on other's art—you may be very well copying their mistakes! To put a finer point on it, I think it's absolutely fine to be inventive with any species' markings, as this is all just fantasy anyway. I think that it's better to start with the real thing and work from there.
