Love poem #12

Love poem #12

Thing made of springs and glittering teeth
Spike driven home in the earth
Ours was a meeting unneeding of bait
Entrapped at the moment of birth

No paw that I gnaw can set my heart free
Your noose twined too tight to escape
We are one, you and I, your teeth and my bone
And the place where they join, and they scrape

No lover could touch me the way that you do
No enemy cut me so deep
Yours the embrace I never can break
And the promise I've always to keep

You, thing of springs and wires and teeth
You, mistress of metal and death
Yours is the love that I hold most dear
And I'll curse it with my dying breath
