Well okay then. That turned out different than I expected.

      Hopefully that's a good thing!

Neither good nor bad. It is just not the way I expected the conversation to go.

It's good to read another chapter of this. I gotta say, though, it's getting harder and harder to sympathize with Nate. I've said before that he displays a great deal of youthful naiveté, and that's understandable — everyone has awkward moments as they figure things out, and everyone has to learn their lessons somehow — but he's clearly not learning. After coaxing Alexei into a kiss in Maxim's home, he is still displaying selfish behaviour and a disregard or lack of understanding of "time and place."

I mentioned how Nate's travels abroad, and all the build-up to it, reminded me of my own journeys; now it's actually Alexei's position that reminds me of my own experiences, having been in a relationship with a self-centred boyfriend and been too emotionally involved to have seen it clearly, until a lot more hurt occurred.

Though to be fair, characters without flaws make boring protagonists. I'm curious to see how this will proceed!

      Thanks for the comment!

In Nate's defense, while this isn't the first time he's suffered from a lack of understanding of 'time and place', this -is- the first time it's truly backfired on him. The selfish behaviour is a by-product of his stubborn, hardheaded nature - he's not outrightly thinking of himself and himself only, but in chasing what he wants, he sometimes fails to realise the potential consequences to himself and others. It is a big flaw of his, and one that in a round about way is also responsible for the strained relationship with his parents.

Interesting to see how your position has shifted between the two main characters throughout this as we learn a little more about them both! I wonder if it'll change further as we go on :)

Maybe it will! I'd be surprised if it moved on to Maxim though, haha.

I still think AAO is the number #1 story I've ever read.
