Static Short: Fated Paths

It's not easy, being a fox.

Neither, a fox who was once a human, that must now save many worlds from ruin.

...Yeah, that sounds difficult, too.

''I wish I had no gender...''

Jolteon fled through Pewter City, her tears merging with the pouring rain; for her, it felt like a waterfall of emotions was going to gush out and drown her.

Splashing through a muddy puddle, dirt ruined her golden fur and stained the proud, white mane around her neck.

Weren't those psychotic, alien monsters enough? Now, she just wanted to disappear and cry.

Her southward beeline flushed her into Viridian Forest, but stopped when suddenly, she felt a painful slap on the cheek and hit the floor like a ton of bricks.

Opening her eyes, a bolt of lightning filled the night sky, revealing the hideous presence of one of the monsters;

Its shape, silhouetted in black, was human-like, albeit alienated by a dozen tentacles wriggling and flailing on its back, its bulky arms and skin in a hue of pale orange, clearly visible at the strike of lightning.

Ending now was Jolteon's life and, although tragic, it seemed appropriate considering what she'd been through that night.

Despicable, gut-wrenching life... she wouldn't miss it anyway.

''... DIE!!!''

Jolteon raised her head from the dirt - a small figure emerged from the trees, collided head-on with the monster and they both went tumbling into a tree-trunk.

This distraction summoned a burst of adrenaline to overwhelm Jolteon; she picked herself up from the dirt, tensed her muscles and discharged electricity, lightning up both creatures like light bulbs.

While the tentacle-bearing one lost consciousness, the other sprang to life!

But, as if responding to its death, more monsters quickly arrived at the scene, jumping out from bushes and trees, all looking exactly the same as each other.

They surrounded Jolteon and stretched the tentacles in their backs as if ready to attack, until the creature let out another loud yell and drew their attention away.

The alien creatures' tentacles began to lash away at the creature.

Jolteon felt helpless, causing a very recent memory to linger in the back of her mind.

''Wait... so, you're a girl?! After all this time?! THAT explains all the battles we've lost; it's because you're a girl, and Daddy said girls are weaker than boys! I don't want you on my team anymore. I'll just get another BOY Jolteon, he'll help us win the Pokemon League for sure!''

Startling her from the daydream, several bolts of lightning rained down into the monsters' bodies.

Clearly visible was the one who'd distracted the now dead monsters.

Almost no bigger than Jolteon, it bore the scrawny shape of a fox.

Pierced through the white tip of its bushy tail was an enormous golden ring, and its body fur was yellow while its chin, chest, belly and legs were all white.

Judging by its 'voice', it sounded like a human boy.

Before anything else, it closed its sapphire blue eyes, and collapsed in the grass, revealing a mysterious yellow ''X'' on its belly, outlined by black fur.

Blood began to appear on its coat from where it'd taken such a harsh punishment.

Jolteon soon took shelter in a bush, dragging the mysterious creature undercover with her.

Together, they had saved each others' lives that night.
