This is pretty much the story as it stood when I abandoned it. All I have done is add my name and convert the file to a .pdf. The text is verbatim from how I left it in 2009. I haven't even added all of the requisite paragraph breaks to distinguish the dialogue.

I am posting this mainly because this was one of the works that built up to "Basecraft Cirrostratus" which I started in the later half of 2007 and published in 2010.

Whereas Cirrostratus makes its setting 100% fictional and transplanted to something resembling 1930s Europe, this one makes no pretenses about being a story from the not-too-distant future in the US.

Ultimately, the ending would have been very cliche and suffered from the curse of so many queer fiction melodramas. The general turns out to be gay, and he and the elite band he leads turn on their oppressive theocratic government. Yawn. I think I had a much more compelling story with "Cirrostratus" and I don't regret abandoning this one.
