My father and I have done a lot of work on this car, which was only about 40 or 50% restored and gutted when we got it in 2001.

This is an early model 2CV; 1956 was the last year for cloth trunk lids. Steel trunk lids became an option in 1957 and became standard equipment in 1958 (though Belgian and UK-built models had them much earlier; mine is a French-built example). It is incredibly rare to find one of these cars with a cloth trunk lid in North America as most of the cars either date from after 1958 or they've been modified by their owners.
