Starry Eyes by Thornwolf

Starry Eyes

Thornwolf

I've created a new folder JUST for sponsored artwork! These are personal pieces that have been created as the direct result of patronage from fans of my work.

This piece of artwork was made possible by kind folks who donated to my "ongoing online tip jar" called Patreon, which can be found here: www.patreon.com/Thornwolf

Because commissions are currently my sole means of earning a living, I don't get to explore my own ideas, such as this image, because I cannot justify the time and must focus all of my artistic energy on work. Kind people donated to me so I could afford to take the time to create this personal piece inspired by my own ideas, and I'm extremely grateful!

I've been wanting to be bolder with my watercolor artwork for awhile. I primarily work with a combination of watercolor and colored pencil, but for this painting, I really had to force myself to not reach for the colored pencils to bring out the shadows. This is completely watercolor with only the slightest hints of white gouache. Most of the glowing elements were created by masking off select areas, so that's the white paper peeking through.

Want to see more work like this or just want to support my artistic efforts? For as little as $1 per new piece of content I create, you'll get access to pieces like this, with tiered rewards for bigger donations, including steep discounts on private commissions. This is a great idea and I'm happy more artists and their fans are able to connect in this way! I have taken full sponsorships in the past, which relied on one or two very generous individuals to pay for the production of the bulk of a piece that they saw sketched out and wanted me to finish in exchange for prints or high resolution images, and even input on how the piece will look. While that way is always appreciated, this model allows any fan of my work to toss me a dollar here or there as if to say "hey, keep being you, I like what I see coming from your weird brain" which builds up so I can set aside time for pieces like these :)

And it's turned out absolutely gorgeous with surprisingly behaving watercolours as well! The ear rings are a subtle touch but I love the fact even they have a bit of bling going as well. Looking forward to your from first scratch one for Patreon since I know you started this a bit sooner if we're gonna end up with you being able to go nuts with what you like.

I debated on whether or not I should add the earrings but, really, any chance to add sparkles and I'm ON IT. XD I figured this was already so fantastical it wouldn't be such a stretch. And yeah! I'm pretty excited to do my next piece, though I can't decide yet which I'll do. It's coming up on a convention at the end of this month, so I'll at least have some breathing room to think about it, but in the mean time, I'll have some more prelim sketches for this one to update you guys with as an extra perk :)
