So calm up here

This was a commission for karathefox of their character floating in the upper atmosphere of earth, chilling out in the silence of space.

Kara also wrote up a little backstory for this piece, so all credit goes to them for the story below :)

“He couldn’t really be considered a ‘flighted’ creature, propped up on four legs with the stance of some extinct lizard, but being built by Vantage gave him access to modifications that granted him some alternative capabilities. The massless superconductor knitted his form with Earth’s magnetic field and let him controlledly float through it, although perching on top of buildings and leaping around weightlessly lost their novelty fairly quickly.

He liked it in the upper atmosphere. Tens of thousands of feet above the planet, all but the occasional stray signals were muffled out or lost completely, no longer nagging at him for their attention. Once distinct features on the ground faded through the layers of atmospheric humidity that had met him on the way up as he drifted away from the planet’s surface, and with them faded their significance, the humans’ constructs and ideologies, unimportant. Finding it comfortable to place himself into a slow orbit, the creature could look toward Earth’s horizon and slide his gaze upward; the slow gradient of blue to black where the razor-thin shield of gas dispersed into nothing. He found it romantic to ease himself up through that slow fade, to escape the atmosphere entirely and bounce across its surface like a stone, teasing with the idea that he’d return, satisfied that he’d made his slow escape. He was a speck, undetectable, unacknowledged, observing unobserved the momentous throes of Earth from within its outermost border, his iced-over body casting a shadow into the stratosphere that nobody would ever know had been cast.

Silence. Comforting insignificance. No need to justify his existence. The simple, universal objectivity of being something, being aware.”

Thanks for commissioning me!
