Retrieval 1/2

This was a commission for username Garuganto of their character trying to retrieve something from an amalgamate hive, but things do not go exactly as planned.

"Garuganto had been sent out to retrieve a high priority piece of intelligence that had ended up inside a hive of the amalgamate after a refuge center was overrun. Miraculously, the scientists location device was still working and Garuganto was able to pinpoint their location inside the hive

Normally it would have been suicide to just walk inside an amalgamate hive. Recent developments in the understanding of how the amalgamate worked had allowed the research and creation of a protective suit that would fool the amalgamates basic senses and cause it to ignore the person inside the suit. Essentially this meant that one could become invisible to the amalgamate.

As Garuganto dropped down into the labyrinth hive the suit seemed to be working as planned. Nothing was coming his way and there was no threatening movement around. Near the location of the signal the walls were lined with what seemed like some sort of sacs, or cocoons. The slight writhing inside them seemed to indicate what had happened to those the amalgamate recently had caught. Unfortunately, those inside the cocoons were already far too gone and there would be nothing he could do for them as they would have been too tainted by the amalgamate by now.

After a few steps he was on top of the signal, and the signal, unfortunately, as expected, the amalgamate had absorbed the scientist into itself. He was assured that there would be no way the amalgamate could sense him, even if he had to dig up the data stick from inside one of the cocoons.

Just as he was about to do so, a cocoon behind him suddenly audibly split open. Before being able to process what is happening several tendrils had wrapped themselves around him. An orange light blared up in his suit "suit integrity danger!", just as he was noticing the little cracks begin to form on his the suits dome. More tendrils continued to wrap themselves around him as he was being dragged inside the gaping cocoon. As much as he tried he couldn't tear the tendrils off of him as there were far too many. "Suit integrity breached!", the light had now changed to crimson red as the tendril around the dome had now successfully cracked it open, allowing the tainted air to infiltrate his suit. Struggling against the tendrils became impossible at that point and they managed to drag him inside the cocoon which sealed itself shut afterwards, leaving him inside to be assimilated like the other victims of the amalgamate he previously saw."
