Werewolves of Burgenwehr

"Up in the north is located a quaint little town, well not necessarily little by northern standards, but somewhat small nonetheless. Surrounded by acres of rotwood forests this town may seem quite ordinary at first glance, unusually peaceful to be absolutely honest as in the north nature and its creations seem to try to kill you at every turn. In this town and the rotwood forests surrounding it the townspeople could walk around without a worry in the world, lumberjacks even would go into the forests without proper protection, only carrying a modestly sized knife and even that would most likely be more for utility rather than protection. Very unusual indeed.

However, if one had a title of a beast feller or something similar of the sort where you earn your bread by felling dangerous, horrible and otherwise unwanted creatures, you would receive quite an enthusiastic welcome. Nothing out of the ordinary when you are travelling in the north to be certain, but one may find it unusually enthusiastic. Everyone in the town will of course immediately tell you about a foul werewolf inside the forest. Someone who would have exceptional perception perhaps would become a bit suspicious, considering how carefree everyone was inside the forest. Surely they would at least have groups consisting of more than 2 or even 3 people if there were dangerous beasts lurking inside the forest. If brought to question the villagers will probably feign ignorance and reply with something along the lines of "Oh the beasts only come around at night.", or "It doesn't come to these parts of the woods.". However, not many would bring the innocence of these townspeople to question as in this transaction of beast slaying both parties would win, right?

As it turns out though, the people of Burgenwehr have had werewolves integrated into their society for a long time. And in reality, the woods surrounding Burgenwehr are quite infested with the things, but who could blame you for missing them, as if you do not have a keen sense of smell or hearing, it is quite difficult to find anything inside the dense rotwoods surrounding the town. And it just so happens that lycanthropes just so happen to possess both. Lycanthropes do not live inside the town of Burgenwehr, obviously, as this would attract unwanted attention. Instead, when one of the townspeople is close to becoming feral they will go deep into the forest to live inside one of the dens there. Because of the close interaction with the townspeople and the lycanthropes they manage to live without any harm being done to either group. This way the lycanthropes can live in the forest in peace and in return keep it clean of any other dangerous wildlife while the townspeople will keep them hidden.

So, once the brave beast fellers stride into the forest prepared to slay this werewolf the trap would be already set. They would be lead into a specific location inside the forest by the townspeople where the beast fellers supposedly would be able to catch the werewolf off guard. Unfortunately for the beast fellers, the lycanthropes would already be waiting for them and once again peace and quiet would return to Burgenwehr."
